COMMON
February 9, 2011
The creators of Project M and the Fearless Revolution have teamed up to create COMMON, a business incubator and creative community that they say can foster a “new brand of capitalism”. John Bielenberg founded Project M, a design lab centered on “thinking wrong”, with the first line on their website being “We just want to change the world.” Project M believes “ability equals responsibility” and they are committed to being part of a design movement. The Fearless Cottage, founded last year by Alex Bogusky and Rob Schuham is an informal “clubhouse” that advocates for a consumer revolution and explores a new relationship between people and brands. The Fearless Revolution is founded on the principle that we have the power and the tools to reshape the world again.
The collaboration of Project M and Fearless focuses on creating a new form of Capitalism that spreads love and prosperity to all stakeholders. COMMON believes in building an open-source living network for the new brand of capitalist, a brand that transitions from competitive advantage to collaborative advantage. COMMON is community designed, community owned, and community directed.
One of the first COMMON endeavors will be working to re-launch the Alabamboo Bike Lab, a project initially created to bring affordable transportation and employment opportunities to rural Greensboro, Alabama. Inspired by the Bamboo Bike Studio in Brooklyn, these bikes use fast-growing and sustainable bamboo as the primary material. COMMON and Project M will be leading a cross-country ride on these bamboo bikes to raise awareness about the new venture.
