Last weekend was the annual Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco. Daraja Academy, who helped sponsor the race, came with a team of racers in support of their efforts for the first free secondary school in east Africa for Kenyan girls. On the same day as the race, Daraja students gathered with teachers and staff  in Kenya to run 12 kilometers for Bay to Breakers at the same time!

We designed and developed a logotype and stationery system for the school, as well as donating t-shirts and silicone wristbands to help raise funds for vital school utilities. Every year, we design custom t-shirts as a cool keepsake for the Daraja team runners. Take a look at their Facebook page for pictures from the event!

Coming to a store near you within the next month is the newest brew from Upslope Brewing, Imperial India Pale Ale. This double IPA will be fifth year-round offering from Upslope, and will be bottled in a larger 19.2-ounce can.

Like the other Upslope varieties, we developed the concept and design for the new can.  So keep your eye out for the release and the new taller purple can, we can’t wait to see it on the shelves!

PeopleForBikes.org was looking sharp at the Sea Otter Classic this past month. We helped them get ready by designing an updated look for their tent, flags, vehicle fleet, apparel and merchandise. We also updated their website and social media to match the rebranded look.

Everyone’s work process is a little different. SID, a quality bike brand of SRAM, came to us with a detailed note asking for a unique piece for the annual VW Sea Otter Classic, a mountain biking race and expo sponsored by SRAM. We delivered a fully custom flash drive, and the drawing has a special place in our hearts.

We had a blast this week at the 4th annual Recycled Runway fashion show put on by Common Threads at the Boulder Theater! Recycled Runway is a guided independent study workshop for teens to make garments from found materials that culminates in an impressive fashion showcase for the community.

Our art director, Michael Benjamin, did a great job emceeing the show as the girls (6th through 12th grade) premiered their designs.

It was hard for us to pick favorites as every girl had such a creative take on the project. Materials ranged from billboard signs, to bike tires, magazines, foam cups, and more.

The winning designs will be held on display at Whole Foods, so keep an eye out if you missed the show!

Our friends and clients at Upslope Brewing have moved into their new tap house! We got to swing by last week to take a peek at the new facility and of course have a couple of beers – a great time! We highly recommend stopping by the brewery this Wednesday, April 24th for the grand opening celebration accompanied by beer, food, and live music!

Located at 1898 S. Flatiron Court in Flatiron Park, off 55th and Central Ave. in Boulder, the 17,000 square foot brewery will allow Upslope to produce 70% more beer initially, with room for future expansion.  It is also home to a 2300 square foot taproom.

As avid coffee drinkers, we sometimes like to nerd out on different ways to make our life-blood. A recent acquisition was the iconic Chemex.

Invented in 1941, the Chemex has become noted not only for its great coffee making, but also for it’s sleek design, becoming a piece in MoMA‘s permanent collection.

We’ve also picked up some trivia facts about the Chemex (besides how to make coffee). One is that it made an appearance in From Russia, With Love the 1963 Bond flick. Another is that it was included in the New York Times’ “100 Best Modern Devices” list. Drink up!
